The tools you would otherwise open four windows for
Ping, traceroute, forward and reverse DNS, port checks, and Find Device — in the same window as the scan results, working on the device you already have selected.
Diagnosis normally means a scanner in one window, a command prompt in another, and a browser tab for whatever the manufacturer’s page is. These are the same tools, already pointed at the device you selected.
Find Device
The one people keep. Start it, then unplug the thing you are trying to identify — or plug it in. ScanWRX watches the network and tells you which address just stopped answering, or just appeared. It is the software version of tracing a cable, and it works on a network you have never seen before.
If two devices disconnect at the same moment, it refuses to name either one and shows you both candidates. That refusal is the feature: naming one at random would be worse than admitting the test was inconclusive.
The rest
- Ping with a running latency distribution, not just an average — which is how you see the one packet in forty that takes 800 ms.
- Traceroute that shows unanswered hops as unanswered.
- DNS forward and reverse, against the server you choose, so you can tell a stale record from a resolver problem.
- Port check against a single port or a list, reporting open, closed and filtered as three different results rather than two.
What this does not do
- Traceroute depends on intermediate routers replying. Hops that do not answer are shown as unanswered rather than omitted, so the hop count stays truthful.
- Find Device needs the device to actually stop answering. A device that goes to sleep on its own during the test will look like the one you unplugged.
